ABOUT THE NAME
Elm Hill Park was the spot for ice skating nearly a century before the ice rink appeared at Lock 3. Ice skaters started using the shallow 18″ deep pond in 1920. In 1932, the city doubled the size of the skating pond to 240 square feet and built a rock retaining wall and shortly thereafter built Forest Lodge as a place for skaters to warm up and drink hot cocoa. After more than 80 years, the pond was drained, and winter fun at Elm Hill Park was no more.
